5 Ways to Make Your Engagement Photos Uniquely Yours

There’s nothing quite so special as finding your true love. All the places and experiences you two have done together is part of what got you to the place where you want to be together forever. And while the actual engagement moment can be spontaneous and personal, many couples choose to remember this exciting and special time in their lives with a professional and intuitive photographer that can capture all the special quirks that make you both unique. These are memories that are meant to last a lifetime. Sharing all these personal experiences with a great engagement photographer can turn these precious memories into beautiful images that you and your family and friends can enjoy for a lifetime.

The Beginning

When many couples recall their memories, they often start at the beginning. Where they met, first dates, embarrassing moments and sweet encounters…these starting steps mean a lot. Why not recreate some of yours? Maybe you met at college, so a photo shoot on the quad or by a statue would be memorable. First date at a restaurant? Ask the manager if you could come in before opening and get a cute shot at the table you sat at so long ago. Work, concerts, carnivals or beaches, they can all be reenacted somehow. We know of one couple who met over a bar (he was the bartender, she was a patron), and the management was thrilled to be able to help them recreate their meeting for a great photo. Most people are romantics, and are happy to help. Tell your photographer which memories mean so much to you, and it’s likely they can make it happen.

Who You Really Are

As you’ve gotten to know each other and fall in love, the real you has been emerging. Crazy sports fan, pub trivia nut, or avid fisherman, chances are that you either love how much passion your partner has and join in…or it’s something that makes you cringe and roll your eyes. Either way, it’s a big part of your lives, and can make for fun photos that signify both of your personalities. A couples pose in waders in the middle of a rushing stream with rods and nets would be amazing, or a tailgate shot in jerseys with a smoking grill and your favorite beer in hand would definitely show your love in a whimsical yet personal way. Even shots without you both in them, like your ring on a fishing reel or both of your running shoes side by side by the door shows how much your shared passions mean to you.

Where You’re At

There’s also a lot of meaning in where you are: where you met, where you live, and where you like to travel to. Giving your engagement photographer a sense of place to incorporate into your photos is a special way to remember your life’s moments. This could be around your home, local spots that you’ve shared memories in, or even long-distance destinations where you’ve vacationed in. Picture your special beach, your regular camping spot deep in the mountains, a family cabin or even your picturesque back yard…these are all special places that your photographer can capture your special moments in. And, if some of these spots are seasonal, try to coordinate your session with the right time of year, or even book multiple sessions. The blazing foliage of fall in the mountains, summer sunsets on the beach, or winter ski spots all give your engagement photos the beautiful feel of the loving memories you made there. And make sure to ask your

photographer about scenic areas nearby, as they likely have extensive knowledge of their area and what time of day to schedule your session.

Who You’re With

While the majority of your photos are going to feature the two of you, there are other special people in your lives that would make part of your photo collection perfect. Kids are such a big part of your lives, and including them in your photo session can be fun and memorable. Parents, older relatives and siblings can also make for a special cameo in your shoot. And don’t forget the pets! Dogs, cats, horses and all sorts of animal companions are such an important part of your new family, and your photographer knows just how to make them part of these incredible memories.

Have Fun!

We know that you want those perfectly poignant photos in beautiful outfits showing you both in a passionate embrace. These are absolutely part of the package you need, and they’ll be plenty of those. That said, don’t forget to show your silly side. So much of what you are revolves around laughter and fun, and you’ll want to show that for your memories. Maybe your partner’s love of board games drives you crazy, or there’s a hysterically embarrassing mishap that happened while on one of your first dates. You can recreate that, and share the goofy vibes with your family and friends. You’ll definitely appreciate it when you look back on this precious time in your lives.
